Jim Florentine's One Man Show ''I'm Your Savior.'' - Wednesday, July 7, 2010

I almost shed a tear. I held it back. More on that in a minute. Comedian Jim Florentine has put together a one man show called ''I'm Your Savior.'' On July 7, 2010 he performed the show at the Stress Factory in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

A few comedians opened up for Jim. Nick Leidl, Esther Ku and Dan Cooper (AKA Dan the Song Parody Man) did a few minutes to warm up the crowd. Esther was cute and funny. I'd forgotten she was on the Stern Show for the Hottest / Funniest Chick contest in 2008. I had to search my own site to remind myself. Dan was very funny too. I'd never seen Dan do stand-up before so it was a nice surprise that he killed.

After the openers Jim did his one man show. I probably can't do this justice with my write up. It's something you have to experience. Jim covers his life and talks about his childhood right up to current day. There's plenty of comedy and also some drama. Jim warned us that we'd laugh and maybe even cry during the show. Jim works his way through his childhood, teen years and adult years very entertaining way. They showed pictures of Jim through the years as well. Then things get serious when he talks about his girlfriend's suicide. That's when the tears welled up in my eyes. It's a pretty intense discussion.

I've seen Jim's stand-up many, many times. ''I'm Your Savior'' was something very different. I saw a side of Jim that I had never seen before and it was great.

After the show I got to hang out with Club Soda Kenny once again. It had been a long time since I'd seen him at any comedy shows. I love being called ''Mr. Friggin'' by Kenny. I was too intimidated to talk to Esther. What's wrong with me?

Keep an eye on Jim's web site, JimFlorentine.com, for upcoming shows and hopefully his ''I'm Your Savior'' dates.
