The story...

Place: Manhattan- New York City
Walking West on 15th street between 5th and 6th
Time: Approximately 9PM

My friend and I were walking around doing some holiday shopping in the outdoor markets of Union Square when we passed a very disheveled looking man and a fairly attractive woman. I couldn't help but mention to my friend that the man looked vaguely familiar. A few seconds went by before I realized it was Stuttering John and his wife (name?). I turned and said, "Stuttering John?!" Luckily they were still in earshot. His wife turned around quickly and grinned. John hesitated, but eventually reacted. He turned and looked at me with a rather blank stare. I had the immediate feeling he didn't want to be bothered. John was dressed in blue jeans, a shabby brown leather jacket, and a plain white t-shirt. His hair looked unkempt and oily. John appeared much shorter than I expected. His wife was wearing something all black and tight. We shook hands. I said "Keep up the good work." We parted company. I'm sure he was relieved that I wasn't one of Stern's more "psycho" fans.
