The story...

I can't even remember the year, I think it was around 1992 or 1993, Howard's first book Private Parts was released. He was doing the talk show circuit and I was fortunate enough to come across a ticket to the Geraldo show, on the day Howard was going to be the guest. My friend and I managed to sit in the second row. The first row was filled with the wack pack and other freaks that Howard had brought. I found myself actually sitting behind Kenneth Keith Kallenbach and I tapped him on the shoulder and said Hello to him. I asked him if he wanted to smoke a joint later on and he replied, "Nawwwwwww Maaaaan, I don't do that anymore". Fred the elephant boy was sitting next to him and he turned around with a shit-eating grin on his face and said something to me which sounded sort of like English. I just sat back with a confused look on my face.

After the Geraldo show, they lined the audience up to get Howard's autograph. I had my new book in hand and a nervous stomach as I approached Howard. My turn came and I gave him my book and said Hello to him. He never looked up as he signed the book and just said "Whats up" in a monotone voice as I was ushered away. Afterwards, my friend and I decided to take a walk around the CBS building and ran into Stuttering John who was walking by himself on a different floor. We asked for his autograph and he was more than happy to comply. We then exited the building and saw Ronnie the Limo driver talking to another person by his car (I guess). What the hell, I asked him for an autograph. He said, "Sure!" and turned right to the page where there was a picture of him and signed it. As Ronnie was signing the book, Gary came towards us and was more than happy to sign as well, he signed it Boy Gary.

It was a very memorable day for me indeed.
