Into The Dabbleverse...

April 17, 2024

I'm deep into the Dabbleverse right now. You might be saying ''The Dabble... what?'' I probably shouldn't attempt to explain it. What I will say is that it's very entertaining.

A few years ago Shuli Egar left the Howard Stern Show and started his own podcast. I followed him just to see what he was going to do after Stern. As time went by Shuli got back together with the guys from The Miserable Men Show (Bob Levy, Mike Morse & others) and created new shows that air on YouTube and Patreon. Shuli and Bob started doing a show called The BS Show which is kind of a morning show format where they talk about random stuff. They've added guys to the show over time so now it's 4 guys, Shuli, Bob, Mike Morse and Anthony Zenhauser. They have fun busting balls and chatting about random shit. Producers Joe and Andy play big roles in the show as well.

Shuli has had other YouTubers do shows with his channel so it eventually became known as The Shuli Network (a.k.a. TSN). Some of those YouTubers left on not-so-great terms so there's a bit of drama at times.

One of the shows on The Shuli Network is called The Uncle Rico Show. Uncle Rico is a reference to the movie Napoleon Dynamite. He's the uncle who can't get past his high school glory days. This show is all about Stuttering John Melendez who was on the Howard Stern Show from 1988 to 2004. He also can't seem to let go of his glory days on the Howard Stern Show and Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Sometime in the past couple of years Shuli saw what another podcaster by the name of Karl (from Who Are These Podcasts a.k.a. WATP) was doing with old Stuttering John podcast clips. Karl was dissecting John's old podcasts and pointing out what a buffoon John is. That led to Shuli, Bob and Mike going down that road with The Uncle Rico Show. Over the past 2 years or so that show has led to a lot of name calling and verbal battles between all of these shows. This is what they call The Dabbleverse. The ''dabbler'' part of this comes from an interview John did with Chrissie Mayr a few years back. Google it and you can go down that rabbit hole for days.

Since I stopped doing my daily rundowns I've become consumed with The BS Show, The Uncle Rico Show and other shows on The Shuli Network. There's another show behind TSN's paywall called The Blunder Years where Shuli, Bob and Mike watch old Stern clips with Stuttering John in them. It's all so amusing... I can't get enough. The BS Show usually starts around 9am (Times may vary) so I'll listen to Howard from 7-9 and then watch or listen to BS live instead of Howard. Then I'll catch up on Howard later in the day or, sometimes, not listen to the rest of the Stern show at all depending on who the guest is.

There's a lot of verbal battling going on between John and all of these guys who do shows about him. It's not exactly clear why but John seems to hate, and I mean genuinely HATE, Shuli. John refuses to even talk to Shuli over any kind of video or audio format. All of these guys appear to be making some good money off of each other too. You can see it in the Superchats on YouTube. The most bizarre thing is John claiming that these Superchats are ''fake'' even though you can see them being sent live during the shows (They're REAL John... REAL!). It's insane.

So every day these guys go back and forth watching each other's shows. Sometimes you'll see Shuli and the guys watching video of John watching them watching him watching them or John watching himself watching a video of these other shows. It's insanity but I can't stop watching. Some fans will pick a side, some play both sides sending Superchats to all of the shows trolling one side or the other. It's easy to interact with all of them. You can troll John by sending him a couple of bucks and then troll TSN or WATP so John is on your side. John will flip flop on who he likes or dislikes in just hours, or sometimes minutes.

If you listened to the Stern show when Stuttering John was around, Uncle Rico is worth a watch/listen. Check out The BS Show and the other shows on TSN too. They're filling in the laughs where the Stern Show has dropped the ball as far as I'm concerned.
